I did not honestly knowing the author go into this with great hope as he has always seemed like a serious no nonsense kind of man. I thought what could he possibly know about this topic? Well I down loaded it to my kindle app and started reading it at a doctor's office. The nurse was calling my name and I didn't even hear her I was so immersed in the reading.

This is the type of book that should be a series. The main character is great, with an excellent story and development that you want to see more of. The story itself is well thought out and when it was over, I was wishing for more. I highly recommend this book.

The basic classifications of auditory and verbal learner (visual-textual, reflective/observational learner, visual-display learner, and applied-doer learner cover most styles without stepping on the toes of different learning theory practitioners. The language used in the text is easy to understand, relate to and useful in discussing course design to management and staff that are not cognizant of learning theories.

I have engaged in online courses in three major universities and without exception they exclusively served the verbal or visual-textual learners, and did not incorporate any "new" ideas in course delivery; even something as simple as podcasting. The online courses mirrored face to face courses and were simply dumping grounds for reading material, poorly mediated discussions and dysfunctional group projects. The online courses I engaged in mock the idea of 'a community of learning'. Curtis Bonk's work is the light showing the way out of the narrow mindless dungeons of higher academe. The R2D2 theory is not instructional design, but it should be an important element.

Joel Whitburn, HIT RECORDS 1954-1982. The book covers the Music Vendor/Record World pop singles charts from 10/4/54 - 4/10/82

Size of the book is based on stock white 8 1/2" x 11" paper, plus a hard laminated cover.

This makes a great adjunct to the other Whitburn books, especially the 1955+ pop singles' series. On average in this volume, I'd put about four not-Billboard hits listed per page--artists who had hit records on these charts that didn't appear on Billboard's. Each of them is marked with a star, and if you're looking for some artists' discography help, especially in the 1954-1960 period who were being displaced by rock 'n roll, you'll find a fairly large (10%+?) number of releases that don't show up on the Billboard listings. Artists who stand out having "extra" hits not previously listed in the Billboard books are Tony Bennett, Jaye P. Morgan, Dorothy Collins, Jo Stafford, Ames Brothers, Georgia Gibbs, Jane Morgan, McGuire Sisters, Fontane Sisters, oodles of not-Billboard hits show on these artists. Additionally, some of the fading pops artists have substantially different peaks and chart longevity versus both the Cash Box and Billboard listings, such as Gale Storm, who lists (page 285) "I Hear You Knocking" at a 20 week run, while the other listings only show between 1 - 3 weeks and substantially lower peaks than her Billboard pops indicate.

Recommended if you already have the Whitburn 1955+ pop singles' book, and if you're interested in the spread among Billboard's radio airplay bias, Cash Box sales bias, and Music Vendor/Record World jukebox bias in their chart reporting. I also recommend the companion book detailing the 101-150 listings as a supplement to any "Bubbling Under..." interests you have.
