Agent Hill - quick read this one

James Hunt has written a winner. As a reader of plenty of action/adventure books, I can say that this was one of the more enjoyable I have read in the genre. Part Mack Bolan, part James Bond, and maybe a little John Milton, Hunt's protagonist Sarah Hill is a serious bad ass. I could not put this omnibus down. Do yourself a favor, buy this book. Then be sure to let James know we need more Sarah Hill.

James Hunt did it again with more great action involving Agent Sarah Hill! Let me first say that I consider myself a book snob. I normally don't read book that are less than 200 pages long. But I purchased (?) a copy of Agent Hill: Off The Grid 0 for free because I like the sound of it and I read it soon after I got it. I absolutely loved the book so I bought Agent Hill Omnibus; I could not put this book down until I finished it at 1:00 a.m.!

I hope that James Hunt wrote more novels about this character!

In addition to satisfying the requirements there are numerous, highly variable operational conditions that impact BNR. These conditions include: changes in strength and composition of the wastewater, alkalinity and pH, temperature, and presence of inhibitory and toxic wastes. Even fluctuations in flows, especially from inflow and infiltration, can adversely impact the aerobic, anoxic, and anaerobic conditions needed for successful BNR. Of the three treatment processes, nitrification, denitrification, and enhanced biological removal, nitrification is often the most difficult to achieve. Therefore, a large portion of this book reviews nitrification. Operators of the activated sludge process need to understand the basic biological, chemical, and physical requirements for BNR in order to improve the performance of these treatment processes. An Operator's Guide to Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) in the Activated Sludge Process is intended to help operators in the monitoring, troubleshooting, and process control of BNR. Numerous tables and figures are included in the book to help the operator understand the biological and chemical reactions that are involved in BNR processes and how the reactions can be monitored for process control. Design of BNR processes is not addressed in this book. Design is addressed in numerous engineering publications. The book serves to help operators achieve permit compliance for nitrogen and phosphorus discharge limits and obtain cost-effective operation. -

A Note from Colin Powell on It Worked for Me

I love stories. In the course of my career I gathered a number of them that mean a lot to me. Most come from my military life. I was in the military from age seventeen as an ROTC cadet until I was a retired GI at age fifty-six. Others came from my service as Secretary of State and as National Security Advisor. Yet others came to me as I wandered through life. In this book I want to share with you a selection of these stories as well as experiences that have stayed with me over the years. Each one of them taught me something important about life and leadership. Some of the stories deal with serious aspects of my life, including some of the controversial issues I was involved in during my tenure as Secretary of State. There are also humorous stories from my life as well. I offer them to you for whatever use you may wish to make of them.

The first part of It Worked for Me explains my Thirteen Rules, which have been bouncing around since they were first published in Magazine over twenty years ago. These are rules that I have gathered over the years and to which I’ve adhered in my career.

It ain't as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning.

Get mad, then get over it.

Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.

It can be done!

Be careful what you choose. You may get it.

Don't let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.

You can't make someone else's choices. You shouldn't let someone else make yours.

Check small things.

Share credit.

Remain calm. Be kind.

Have a vision. Be demanding.

Don't take counsel of your fears or naysayers.

Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.

The rest of the book focuses on everything from the importance of really knowing who you are and how to always be yourself to why I put an emphasis on knowing and taking care of others, especially those who are your followers. I go into my experience in the exploding digital realm that has reshaped the world and our lives. I talk about how to be a great manager and a great leader. I give no conclusions or recommendations, just my observations. The chapters are free-standing. You can read them straight through or jump in anywhere. Everyone has life lessons and stories. Perhaps the best book on leadership

I went to the Naval Academy and to business school and took lots of leadership courses. Most were useless. This book is the best book on leadership that I have read, and it is written by someone who really knows something about leadership. Most textbooks are of no practical use. Forget about every other book on leadership, and just read this. But, this isn't just about leadership. There are more general life lessons - specifically how to approach life so that you get the most out of yourself and how to treat others with dignity and respect.

Gen Powell's manuscript is incredibly insightful. It fuses light anecdotes with more weighty stories about his life and career in order to share lessons learned from his long and illustrious career. At times the content seemed a bit unfocused. But, the fascinating inside look into his career provides plenty of intrigue to allow for the casual detour from the main point.

Love me some General Colin Powell! I have seen this guy speak on several occasions, and have walked away, marveling, at how intelligent and thoughtful he is. This is a great man, and I truly wish that he would have run for President. I think he could've done some real good for our country. This book is full of some interesting stories on how he developed his own style of leadership through life's experiences. It's a quick and entertaining read.
