From the Back Cover
The Consolation of Philosophy is perhaps unique in the nature and extent of its influence on Western thinking.

An eminent public figure under the Gothic emperor Theodoric, Boethius (c. A D 475-525) was also an exceptional Greek scholar and it was to the Greek philosophers that he turned when he fell from favour and was imprisoned in Pavia. Written in the period leading up to his brutal execution, it is a dialogue of alternating prose and verse between the ailing prisoner and his 'nurse' Philosophy, whose instruction on the nature of fortune and happiness, good and evil, fate and free will, restore his health and bring him to enlightenment.

The clarity of Boethius's thought and his breadth of vision made The Consolation of Philosophy hugely popular throughout medieval Europe and his ideas suffused the thought of Chaucer and Dante. This translation makes it accessible to the modern reader while losing nothing of Boethius's poetic artistry and philosophical brilliance.

About the Author
Ancius Boethius (c. A.D.480-524) was a Roman philosopher and is considered one of the last authentic representatives of the classical world, in both his life and writings. It is through Boethius' translations that the knowledge of Aristotle has survived in the West.

Victor Watts read Classics and English at Merton College Oxford. He is Master of Grey College and part-time Senior Lecturer in the School of English and Linguistics at Durham University.

A classic of philosophical thought--Key to the middle ages.
By A Customer
I didn't know exactly what to expect when I first picked up a modern-English translation of Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius' _The Consolation of Philosophy_. I knew that Boethius was held to be one of the greatest thinkers of his time--a child prodigy from a distinguished Roman family, a distinguished student of Greek, who essayed to translate all of Plato and Aristotle into Latin, and reconcile their philosophies (a task which he never completed). I knew that _The Consolation_ was held to be one of the most influential books of the middle-ages: translated into English by Geoffrey Chaucer and no less than two English monarchs.
I didn't expect the fusion of allegorical tale, platonic dialogue, and lyrical poetry (the genre is officially called the Menippean Satire)that I found. The issues _The Consolation of Philosophy_ addresses were already the time-worn province of philosophical thought by the time that Boethius essayed to address them: the nature of predestination and free will, why evil men often prosper and good men (as Boethius thought himself) often fall into ruin, the nature of the relationship between time and eternity. And the answers are mostly not new with him either: long chains of sophistical reasonings that prove, among other things, that evil men do not wholly exist, and that by allowing them to obtain their evil desires, God is punishing them more terribly than if he had stopped them. The answers are familiar, in tone, if not in exact content: a mystic-based neoplatonic vision of God as an eternal oneness, to which the soul rises through the layers of being. A somewhat recursively defined and unworldly 'good,' to which all souls aspire. Long passages on the vanity of worldly gain, the fickleness of fortune--all of them are familiar to readers who've read much classical or medieval philosophy.
But much of what feels familiar in _Consolations of Philosophy_ is not familiar from its sources, but from the many works for which it is the basis. It is in Boethius that much of the thought of the the Classical period was made available to the Western Medieval world. Thus, you find things in _The Consolation_ that echo throughout the Western Canon--the female figure of wisdom that informs Dante, the ascent through the layered universe that is shared with Milton, to say nothing of the ideas of the reconciliation of opposing forces that find their way into Chaucer in _The Knight's Tale_, among others.
But beyond the influence of the ideas, what _The Consolation of Philosophy_ has that is lacking in most other philosophical texts is a feeling of the importance of these ideas: Boethius wrote this book while awaiting trial and execution (he was ground to death in a mortar) on charges of treason, and though the book isn't explicitly autobiographical, the problems that it deals with were of the utmost importance to him at the the time, and he didn't have time to spare on superfluities. What results, then, is a philosophy made explicitly to deal with suffering: compact and full of emotion. Whether you read this book as a key to Medieval thinkers, an introduction to Classical thought, or simply as a way of looking at the problems that still concern us to this day, you should, by all means, read it.

Remains vital after fifteen hundred years
By Robert Moore
The particular edition I am reviewing is the Oxford World's Classics translation by P. G. Walsh.

This is one of those classics that can catch an unsuspecting reader completely by surprise, especially if one has read many other works by near contemporaries. The circumstances under which it was composed are legendary, and lend the work a legitimacy granted to few other works. Boethius was among the foremost government officials in what was essentially the successor government to the end of the Roman Empire. Rome and much of the rest of what would later become Italy was under the control of the Ostrogoth king Theodoric. A product of one of the leading Roman familes, Boethius ascended to a power of great honor and authority under Theodoric, only to be accused of treason late in the latter's life, at which point Boethius was imprisoned and condemned to death. While awaiting his fate (including whether Theodoric actually intended on carrying out the sentence), Boethius wrote this remarkable dialog between a prisoner whose situation closely resembles Boethius' and Philosophy personified as a woman. Although many topics are discussed, the heart of the dialog is the nature of true happiness.

Although few of its readers are likely to face circumstances as dire as Boethius', the work remains remarkably pertinent in an age where ideals of happiness are dictated almost entirely by our modern consumer society. Philosophy carefully explains to the prisoner that that happiness can never be found in such things as fame or power or riches and other things that are confused with the true source of happiness. For Boethius' Philosophy, happiness is ultimately rooted in the Christian God, but even for non-Christians, the lightly theological tone of the work provides much reflection on the nature of happiness in almost any kind of situation.

The Walsh edition of this work is, in my opinion, the finest readily available edition in English. The notes are marvelous, both providing overviews to each upcoming section as well as providing detailed comments on specific lines in the text. The introduction gives any new reader of the work all the context and background that he or she would need to digest the work. Best of all, the translation is exceptionally readable, and the translations of the many poems far above the average for most academic translations of verse.

I recommend this work strongly to either of two kinds of readers. First, for anyone who is a student of intellectual history the work remains for an understanding of a host of writers in the middle ages, as well as for many 19th century poets. Second, anyone interested in devotional or reflectional works, whether religious or philosophical, this remains one of the most essential works in the history of thought. By almost any standard, this is a work that demands careful reading and study.

Philosophy as Religion
By C. King Khidr
That Boethius was the "last of the Romans and the first of the scholastics", as has often been said of him, makes him a most unusual character in the history of thought. Serving as a bridge between two worlds, his writings, infused with the ideas of both Aristotle and Plato -- the two giants of ancient Greek philosophy -- allowed for the transmission of Neoplatonism into the emerging Christian intellectual tradition. Through the figure of Boethius the Latin West came to inherit many of the achievements of Greek learning.
The Consolation of Philosophy, Boethius's magnum opus, was one of the most widely read works in medieval Europe, especially in the twelfth century. No doubt, the dramatic context in which the work was written must have greatly accentuated its popularity. But there is more to the Consolation then simply a dramatic background, and this feature in itself would hardly explain the influence of the work on figures ranging from King Alfred to St.Thomas Aquinas. Boethius, being at once a Christian and a philosopher, was confident that reason and faith were reconcilable, and his entire literary enterprise can be summarised in his own words: fidem rationemque coniunge (show the harmony of reason and faith). An inheritor of the Greek tradition, he held that the world was a KOSMOS -- rationally structured, therefore rationally knowable. What makes the Consolation unique is that although it is a religious text, it doesn't make recourse to revealed religion; in Boethius's case, Christianity. That Boethius sought to answer religious questions without reference to Christianity, relying solely on natural philosophy, caused some later figures to question his religious allegiance prior to his death. But Boethius, as has been pointed out, believed in the harmony of faith and reason; being a Christian-Neoplatonic philosopher, for him to have found solace in philosophy does not imply that he left Christianity. For the truths found in Christianity would be no different than the truths found in philosophy, and whether consolation was found in the religion of Christ or Socrates would make no great difference. In the words of Henry Chadwick, "If the Consolation contains nothing distinctively Christian, it is also relevant that it contains nothing specifically pagan either...[it] is a work written by a Platonist who is also a Christian, but is not a Christian work."
The Consolation begins with Boethius lamenting his plight. Dame Philosophy descends to provide consolance to his bereaved soul, cure him of the extreme melancholy, and rid him of his misfortune, not that of his imprisonment and loss of worldly goods and status, but the spiritual ailment clouding his intellectual vision.
Boethius's troubles, Lady Philosophy tells him, lie within himself. He has been driven into exile by himself. "For if you can remember your true country...'it has one ruler and one king'" and the "oldest law of your true city, [is] that the citizen who has chosen to establish his home there has a sacred right not to be driven away". Dame Philosophy is here referring to his self, the mind. For Boethius, being distracted by external matters, (both the fortunes of his luxurious life and the misfortunes of his political imprisonment), has forgotten his real source of happiness, whose fountain lies within.
In short, the Consolation examines the raison d'etre of philosophy, and its capacity to bring about true and complete happiness -- a happiness which can be acquired by unearthing the hidden treasures which dwell within. Hence philosophy is not an end in itself -- a fruitless game of mental acrobatics -- anymore than a shovel is for one in search of Sophia's treasures.
Boethius expresses the Socratic idea that all men seek the Good, and the Aristotelian idea that this Good is eudaimonia. The attainment of happiness is found through a return of the soul to its primordial state, since "You, too, who are creatures dream of your origin". By the end of the Consolation, Boethius, remembering who he truly is -- a rational being endowed with a purpose, to actualise the good and fulfil his true nature -- recovers from his spiritual amnesia through a discovery of the remedy for his extreme sickness: philosophy.

If you listen, he will tell you why Oneness is the only true reality. As a species, humans have forgotten who they are and where they are going. It is now their time to awaken. If you listen, he'll reveal the story of probable futures and how our planet is inextricably connected to the evolution of our galaxy. His latest book Answers is his new conversation with all of us. It will pull life as you know it down to the quantum level, and, if you're open-minded enough, allow your everyday beliefs to unfold into inner and outer spaces of interminable beauty and possibility.

Human Revolution Underway in 2012 to the Future
By Robert robert.snare@earthlink.net
I just got the three latest books. Am halfway through "Answers" and am dumbstruck. I have no adequate words to describe the monumental events unfolding. I can't summarize what the book reveals. You must read it for yourself.

Everything I thought I knew about science, religion, history, politics and the nature of us has been shattered. All lies. There is only a single source for the Truth. About US. What our future can be. And WHY "they" are so frightened of us. And the unknown and untapped POWER we have. To change our world. By our thoughts.

Imagine all the conspiracy theories enveloped in one greater lie. The greatest lie of all time. Read Stan's books. Educate yourself about where we came from, Who created us, why we are here, and what our future should be.

Stan realizes his position as the voice of truth to the world. He is uncomfortable with his role but it is his destiny. He has been chosen to show us the light. He is much, much more than he realizes.

Someone recently talked to a group I attended about the Elephant-in-the-room. Everyone is aware of the issue (UFOs, alien life and Human History) but are afraid to discuss it. Afraid of intimidation, jokes made fun of, scorned whatever. We have to get past that.

Fortunately for me I able to attend regular *meetings of like minded folks. Many whom have had real experiences with alien contact, visitations, visions, whatever. And can share their stories with friends who understand what they are feeling, what their fears are, and why they may feel like they are losing their minds. I encourage you to find other people to relax with. To talk about the hard things. Share your commonality. We are all human beings. We deserve to understand why our lives have been turned upside down. Lose our fears. Generate positive thoughts as a group. Ten people meditating about a common fear are like may 1,000 individual persons meditating alone. It has been called the power of prayer and it is proven to work.

Therein lies the big scam. Why our schools are turning out less educated graduates. Why do films, TV and major news outlets ignore crucial events we all know are happening. To dumb us down to the lowest common denominator. To shrink our brain power. To control us through fear. Stupid people believe whatever is told to them. To make the Illuminati more powerful and richer. And yes they are real and have been around for hundreds of years.

They poison us. Remember when fluoride was introduced into our drinking water in the '50s? We were told it made our teeth stronger. Not true. It migrates to our braincells to dull them.

Aerial spraying of unknown stuff? Pathogens to sicken and weaken us. How about children getting doped up every day in school? With who knows what. Makes the docile. Slows down the brain.

Trillions of dollars spent on cancer research? And nothing to show for it but new hospitals, rich insurance companies, rich researchers, drug companies, and lawyers and scientists and manufacturers and governments. It is all about money.

We live too long. But there is money to be made in those last years of our lives.

The population is unsustainable. We know that. Their plan is to weaken us to the point of desperation. But still force us to do their work.

We can change that! Our mental capacities have been so screwed up that we need to learn how to develop the abilities we all have.

I used to believe in a few sincere men of science, about what is happening to us. With no regret two of the three are unimportant. Not that they do not know the Truth. They know enough to promote their own agenda. Power, money fame whatever. Ignore them.

There is only a single source for the ultimate Truth. Truth that is setting us free as you read this. And Freedom is all we want.

Strange brew
By A. W. Mesokosmos
I read Messages when it first came out. It seemed like a layman's crash-course into all thing strange. For those who have followed discussion in the fields of the fantastic most of it was, at least intellectually, familiar territory. And for a seasoned fringe-area reader some aspects came out as little odd. Romanek's co-writer, whom the reader was told to be a connoisseur of the paranormal, never seemed to want to "pollute" the protagonist's mind with his own large knowlede of the field. Romanek came across as sincere enough, but he was at the time working with a co-writer because of his severe, self-confessed, diagnosed dyslexia. That's why I find it a little weird that in Answers he lets go on his own with no explanation of the improved lexical ability, and does not seem to have any problem writing fluent, sometimes eloquent english. Now his focus (apart from the subject matter) seems to be on giving the impression of being the Average Joe to whom stangeness just happens. I am about the same age as Romanek, hailing from Finland, a social-democratic welfare state in northern Europe that has been deemed the worlds second happiest and the least corrupt country in the world by several American studies this year. I have studied comparative religion and theology in the university of Helsinki and spent half my life pouring over the works of the likes of Joseph Campbell, Erich von Dniken, Jacques Valle, Secharia Sitchin, and lately I've worked my way through Whitley Strieber's and Dolores Cannon's oeuvres, which are impressive.

Answers is a truly problematic book for me. It has at times brilliant document-like composition, lots of interesting characters, several (unnecessary) cliffhangers and intense approach on the subject matter. And here comes the but. There are screaming illogicalities in the book. It is too just too tightly composed in some parts, and elsewhere it throws away all modesty. For example when it is trying for some reason to indoctrinate the reader with alleged research into the vast network of all kinds of esoterica. As a avid reader in gnostisism my ears get hot when someone unnecesseralily namedrops stuff like Nag Hammadi library, the book of Enoch and several other rather obscure sources (the Emerald tablet of Hermes Trismegistus) like they wanted to mesmerize the reader with a sense of awe for the eruditeness of the writer. You just don't have to do this Mr. Romanek. Trust our reader. Don't get academic. Or the "Knowingness" he calls it. Moreovere every aspect of UFOlogy and conspiracy theories are presented at some point or other. And this from a writer who just few years ago told he had whatsoever no interest or literacy in these matters, as he keeps telling in Messages. Then a wise old man character is introduced, and presented as a mysterious know-it-all -sage. Not much different from Strieber's Master of the Key. And the next second the wise-man character starts spewing forth david-icke-esque conspiracy theories with a vengeance. Even the European style free healh-care is numbered among the Illuminati plot to forward evil schemes of the "reptilian" aliens. Badly photoshopped alien images are reproduced. (And if the girls in the pictures are real, they are wreaking havoc with digital cameras! That I would believe.) Prophecies about great cataclysmic events are given, but among the reasons for the events you find no mention of global climate change, not anything about the problems brought about by the end of oil-powered agriculture, nor any words about world poverty. And then sudden bile is heaped upon president Obama, then liberals in general and then upon the odd enviromentalist too. The main whistleblowers of modern era, the club of Rome are at one point named among warmongers of this world. Among builders of totalitarian future. They were the first to alert the westerners to coming times on change, forgodssake. Quite a weird approach in a book that preaches peace, understanding and new consciousness. To present concerned and serious people intent on spiritual growth semi-fascists. I just don't get it. At one point Romanek's wife if quoted saying: "not all can be rebublicans, i guess". I thought Starseed, as the Aliens call him, as we are told, would be above party politics of a particular country. At least when he lets us know he is a reborn soul from the priestly "True Orions.". Go figure.

And yet I would love some of the stories and events to be literally true. I yearn for a world where the fantastic is real, and the real fantastic. Alas, my belief system has a kind of a fuse that blew many times reading this book. It says: never take at face value what the supernatural world tells you. It is a world with it's own agenda. And when they tell Romanek, that he is the Messanger, and his hybrid children the balancers of the paradiasical future (with no government but lots of flourishing free capitalism, I suppose) it would be partly nice to believe them. I really would like to see a shift. A great shift. I am just not sure, if I prefer Mr. Romanek's kind of shift. There are no politics in love.

(Sorry for all the spelling and grammar mistakes, it is really not my first languge and i am writing from the hip here.)

What if you weren't sexually attracted to anyone?

A growing number of people are identifying as asexual. They aren’t sexually attracted to anyone, and they consider it a sexual orientation—like gay, straight, or bisexual.

Asexuality is the invisible orientation. Most people believe that “everyone” wants sex, that “everyone” understands what it means to be attracted to other people, and that “everyone” wants to date and mate. But that’s where asexual people are left out—they don’t find other people sexually attractive, and if and when they say so, they are very rarely treated as though that’s okay.

When an asexual person comes out, alarming reactions regularly follow; loved ones fear that an asexual person is sick, or psychologically warped, or suffering from abuse. Critics confront asexual people with accusations of following a fad, hiding homosexuality, or making excuses for romantic failures. And all of this contributes to a discouraging master narrative: there is no such thing as “asexual.” Being an asexual person is a lie or an illness, and it needs to be fixed.

In The Invisible Orientation, Julie Sondra Decker outlines what asexuality is, counters misconceptions, provides resources, and puts asexual people’s experiences in context as they move through a very sexualized world. It includes information for asexual people to help understand their orientation and what it means for their relationships, as well as tips and facts for those who want to understand their asexual friends and loved ones.

Review
“This title is an important resource for readers of any age who are struggling to understand their sexual orientation, or those who would like to better understand asexuality.” —Library Journal, starred review

“This book shines a much-needed light on an experience that’s far more common than most people realize. Julie Decker brings together the many different voices and stories of asexual people, presents valuable information, and offers helpful insight about how non-asexual people can be supportive. If you or someone you know is or might be asexual, read this book. And if you’re a sexuality or relationship professional, read this book. Asexuality is part of the sexuality spectrum and you need The Invisible Orientation on your shelves.”—Charlie Glickman, PhD, certified sexological bodyworker

“I’ll admit it: I used to think asexuality was not real. I couldn’t wrap my head around the concept—sex is a huge part of my life, so how could it be insignificant to someone else? Boy, was I ignorant! This book is a comprehensive learning tool for those who are asexual, as well as those who are asexual curious. Advocating respect, this rare and precious resource will open your eyes and set the record straight in a clear and straightforward manner. Prepare to have your mind blown!” —Kendra Holliday, creator of The Beautiful Kind blog

“This is a long overdue book. It provides a sense of what it is like to be asexual that can sometimes be missing from academic work. . . . It is a book with the potential to make a positive difference to many people’s lives and help combat what the author describes as the ‘insidious form of exclusion’ that asexual people continue to experience.” —Mark Carrigan, Department of Sociology, University of Warwick

“This fascinating book will make more space for thoughtful understanding of sexual diversity and desire and help us understand just how variable human sexuality really is. For sex educators, therapists, and scholars, it’s a must-read. For asexual people (or the ‘A-questioning’), who are so frequently invisibilized and disrespected, it may well offer the kind of succor, support, and information that every person—across the sex, gender, and partnering spectra—deserves.” —Carol Queen, PhD, Founding Director, Center for Sex & Culture and author, Real Live Nude Girl: Chronicles of Sex-Positive Culture

About the Author
Julie Sondra Decker has been a prominent voice for the asexual community since 1998, spreading asexuality awareness through her popular videos and blog essays. She has been interviewed in many mainstream publications, including Marie Claire, Salon, and the Daily Beast, and she was a prominent interviewee in the documentary (A)sexual by Arts Engine. She is a regular contributor to Good Vibrations. As an aromantic, asexual woman, she is happily single and resides in Tampa, Florida.

Great book for new ACES.
By Carolyn M. Stark
Just realized I was an asexual but never knew there was even such a thing. My doctor recommended this book. It has loads of information along with an index of terms, definitions and websites. You will learn a lot from this book if you are asexual, a parent of friend of an ace or just wondering what it is all about.

This is an invaluable book for learning about asexuality. It's very easy to feel confusion about human sexuality whether it's your own or someone else. It can feel awkward or indecent to discuss openly and so valid differences never really get addressed. This is especially the case if it's an orientation that rarely gets acknowledged to boot.

This book introduces the basics of asexuality and is split into six categories outside the introduction: Asexuality 101, Asexual Experiences, The Many Myths of Asexuality, If You're Asexual (or Think You Might Be), If Someone You Know Is Asexual (or Might Be), and Other Resources. It covers a lot of ground without getting too detailed for someone just learning about it. Keep in mind this book assumes that the reader has a basic familiarity with LGBT issues and it isn't afraid to be frank in its discussion about sex. Some information is repeated throughout the book since it's written with the idea that someone will go to whichever chapter bears most relevance to them first, so you don't absolutely have to go from cover to cover.

My one minor critique is that I would have liked it to go into even more depth on sex repulsion, sex positivity, what those terms do and don't mean, and just how this can effect an asexual person specifically. Granted, this is supposed to be an introduction and it touches briefly on these subjects, so I don't know how fair a critique about wanting more details out of an introductory book is.

I also would have liked more examples of exclusively good elements to being asexual if that makes sense. This is done to some degree with references to asexual characters in media and famous people who identify as asexual, which were welcome additions to see. However, I think it's important to note that the fact that this book addresses the "negative" side to being ace is because disparaging remarks about asexuality or plain old misunderstandings are a genuine thing asexual people face. It's important to bear in mind that The Invisible Orientation goes out of its way to empower an asexual individual no matter what the scenario is and especially the more difficult ones, however. The chapter "Other Resources" also provides some excellent resources to connect with with other asexual people and their allies.

I think this book will answer more questions than not and is written in an understanding and compassionate way. Highly recommended for anyone who is struggling with being asexual, someone who knows someone who is struggling with it, and anyone who simply wants to broaden their understanding of these issues. I hope more books on asexuality and asexual experiences will follow both from this author and from others.

It's high time such a book was published
By Barbara W. Klaser
This is such a good book, and high time such a book was published.

If you identify as asexual or know someone who does, or even if you don't know of anyone who is, or don't know what I'm talking about, you should read this book. In fact if you are at all interested in how humans relate to each other, you should read The Invisible Orientation.

This is a comprehensive look at a neglected sexual orientation, written in a way that's sensitive to all the nuances and forms asexuality can take. Asexuality is a natural, in-born orientation in something around 1% of the population. The term "asexual" when applied to sexual orientation means that one isn't sexually attracted to anyone or experiences no sexual desire. It's been so unrecognized, until about 10 or 12 years ago, that there wasn't even a name for it. People who experienced asexuality didn't know they weren't alone until the Internet began to make it possible to connect and realize there were others out there who experienced the same thing.

Julie Sondra Decker provides lots of information here, and in an organized way that's accessible and highly readable, with sensitivity to the many issues that arise when one sets out to define or explain asexuality. She includes numerous Internet and reading resources. Highly recommended.

Your Immortal Body of Light, by Mitchell Earl Gibson

"My name is Mitchell." Thus begins, Your Immortal Body of Light, a fascinating and true story that takes Mitchell E. Gibson, M.D. out of his ordinary consciousness and into the inner realms of his being. Dr. Gibson was Chief Resident in Psychiatry at a large inner city medical center when he began his journey, expanding his consciousness using meditation. On his quest, he actually encounters an ancient 'god of healing' known as Djehuti (pronounced Dee-jan-tee), or Thoth. Being a psychiatrist, Gibson more than wavered before accepting that he was indeed speaking with an actual entity but the experience persisted and eventually Djehuti revealed profound information to Gibson, about the formation of the soul and the causes of mental illness. Your Immortal Body of Light is a credible and highly readable adventure into the land of magic and miracles invoked by meditation. Not since the release of Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century by John Jay Harper has there been such a heartfelt sharing of what it means to be contacted by a "deceased" colleague and how to apply those insights to understanding the physics and metaphysics of creation. In this book the author travels beyond the illusive veil of "reality" to bridge the gap between cultures and centuries. Dr. Gibson reveals how Words of Power invoke transformation in body-mind-spirit as scholar Jeremy Naydler declared in Temple of the Cosmos: The Ancient Egyptian Experience of the Sacred. "It is no coincidence that Thoth, the Lord of Speech, who in the Beginning uttered the primordial sounds that thickened into tangible substances and thus brought the world into existence, was also the originator of writing." That is, your world will never be the same once you put these writings into practice to create a life that is a dream come true too. Both fascinating and chilling this is not your everyday spiritual awakening story. Lee Levinson, Emmy Winning Television Producer "Your Immortal Body of Light" is alternatively a sensitive and compelling portrait of one man's spiritual and emotional journey into the unknown. The author's recounting of his personal experiences are reflected in outstanding visual sequences and dramatic character interaction that make this true story resonate with an air of authenticity that will impact audiences everywhere. Five Stars Highly Recommended... Kirkus Reviews "Nourishing soul food for the spiritually inclined."

Only for the Open-Minded Reader
By Michael E. Tymn
It's very unusual but encouraging to see a board-certified forensic psychiatrist writing a book that addresses the spiritual causes of mental health. Of course, mainstream psychiatry, still seriously afflicted with the disorder of scientific materialism, will likely want to distance itself from Dr. Gibson, if it hasn't already done so.

According to the "bio" page in the book, the author received his medical degree at the University of North Carolina and completed his residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He received the Albert Einstein Foundation Research Award for his work in sleep disorders. He is a former chief of staff at East Valley Camelback Hospital in Mesa, Arizona and a clinical professor of medicine and psychiatry at the Midwestern College of Medicine.

So why is a psychiatrist with such excellent credentials risking his reputation among his professional peers by writing that he can see auras, leave his physical body, and talk to the "dead"? Why would he possibly go public with stories about negative energies or earthbound spirits attaching themselves to living humans and causing their mental disorders? Isn't this called professional suicide?

Gibson does not really address the risks of going public with his experiences, but one might infer that he has evolved beyond the point of being concerned with his reputation. He appears to be the rare scientifically trained man with a "guts."

Early in the book, Gibson, through meditation, encounters an entity calling himself Djehuti. This spirit guide or component of higher self, whatever classification is given to him or it, provides much wisdom and guidance for Gibson and is often quoted. "It is important for you to relieve yourself of the prison of your limited acceptance of reality," Djehuti tells him. "The real you is alive in dreams and beyond. It is time for you to become more active in these realms."

As Gibson learned from Djehuti, he "felt like a caveman who just stumbled onto a 747 Jumbo Jet parked in the forest." In his out-of-body states, he was able to observe the spirit leaving the body of a deceased patient and to communicate with deceased souls. Gradually, he was able to fit the pieces of the puzzle together and make sense of the whole picture. In the final chapter, he states that while he has attempted to apply his newfound understanding of spiritual matters to his growing psychiatric practice, about 90 percent of his patients have no desire hear about the spiritual causes of their problems. But for the 10 percent who are open to it he has seen miraculous sometimes spontaneous healing take place. He ends by saying that his passion in life is to help as many souls as possible, "wisely employing what I see as the emerging science of the soul in the 21st Century."

This makes for a fascinating read for the open-minded.

***** If You Won't Ever Die, Then Don't Read This Book *****
By John Jay Harper
As a mental health clinician myself, I can state unequivocally that I have never read a book by a board-certified psychiatrist that held more hope for the human race than this one does in fact. Truthfully, where are you going to find a physician that not only speaks candidly about his encounters with deceased patients, but does so in a way that makes you feel fuzzy all over, enough to hunt this medic down and give him a big bear hug for all mankind now?

Gosh, I must be going soft-hearted in my old age but this is the gratitude one feels as you read this non-fiction story that reads better than most medical novels of fiction today. This doctor of souls starts out hitting the medical wards of his hospital -- Albert Einstein College of Medicine -- running at a fast-clipped pace to attend to the needs of disturbed people on the "night shift," then accelerates as more and more of his "deceased" clients make contact with him daily, seeking help from beyond the veil of death. Now if these close encounters don't leave you breathless, as they did me, then, perhaps, you need to check your pulse? For maybe my friend you've passed over to The Other Side as well now but don't even know it either!

In summary, if you have read the genre of near-death and related mystical books, as I have, don't make the mistake of lumping this one with those. This is a story all its own; there ain't another one like it, trust me. In short, it says that we not only DO NOT DIE, but it also prepares us psychologically for what we might come face-to-face with, too: The gods of Egypt! Smile if you want, smirk if you are a skeptic as I once was, but don't fail to buy this book and give Dr. Gibson, MD, a fair reading in the court of public opinion first. More so, let's call our favorite talk show hosts and make this man explain himself to us! Inquiring minds like mine want to know the truth -- do we die or don't we? If not, what's all the fuss in funerals and the grief about, really? Shouldn't we be celebrating every loved ones passing through the "test of time" into eternity like a rite of passage from childhood to immortality?

Dr. John Jay Harper is author of Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century.

The nature of the soul
By Amazon Customer
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, my only regret is that I wished it was longer. In reading this book I feel very much connected to the author and his experiences (especially since I am going thru medical training myself). However, what is unique is that the author gives clues to the true nature of the soul. Especially, when he talks about his dreams which is actually worth reading over a few time because there is a great truth hidden in the messages contained in the dream section.
