About the Author
Clarissa Willis, Ph.D., has worked for the past 20 years on behalf of children with autism spectrum disorder and their families. She is the author of five books including the award-winning titles Teaching Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Inclusive Literacy Lessons. Her articles on child development and early childhood special education have been published both nationally and internationally. Formerly an Associate Professor of Special Education and the Associate Director of the Center of Excellence in Early Childhood Learning and Development at East Tennessee State University, she currently works as an early childhood consultant and frequent speaker at national and international conferences.

A sensitive, practical, humane approach to Whole Body Learning, for the Whole Child, who happens to have Autism :)

It is truly refreshing and impressive to find a book that treats the young child with Autism in a sensitive, holistic, matter of fact, and humane manner! Written by a very knowledgeable and supremely talented teacher, this book is a terrific resource for a true, collaborative, and methodical team approach to preschool Autism Intervention. It's filled with practical information about behavior management for "stemming" and "meltdowns", sensory processing issues, social communication issues, and even delayed onset of play skills; so crucial for early learning. I like this book so much, it has been featured in my Socially Speaking(tm) seminars and website for some time, and is on my keeper shelf!

I LOVE the way the chapters are organized and how the book is formatted!

Every page in every chapter is divided into 3 sections: What to Do, Helpful Hints, and a sidebar that has three suggestions: Objective, When to Use This Strategy, Materials Needed. A helpful reading list (resources) and terminology list (key terms) round out the flow of information, in easy to read, easy to understand chunks. The book layout is also visually appealing and really easy on the eyes :) The final chapter, "We're All In This Together" beautifully hits home the importance of a team approach and that counseling and educating the team members is an ONGOING privilege and process.

This book is a much needed resource for parents/professionals in the Autism community no matter which age/stage! I enjoyed reading it, and have enjoyed implementing it even more! Read it and you'll see what I mean :)

It unwraps aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder in simple, easy to understand language that I feel makes it a valuable addition to any workplace bookshelf. Staff at my Early Childhood Service loved it and we are purchasing a second copy to keep on our resource shelf.

About the Author
Stephen J. Reynolds is the author of the highly successful Exploring Geology, Stephen Reynolds is bringing his innovation and strong visual content to Exploring Physical Geography. Stephen J. Reynolds received an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in geosciences from the University of Arizona. He then spent ten years directing the geologic framework and mapping program of the Arizona Geological Survey, completing a new Geologic Map of Arizona. Steve currently is a professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University, where he has taught various courses about regional geology, earth resources, evolution of landscapes, field studies, and teaching methods. As a National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) distinguished speaker, he traveled across the country presenting talks and workshops on how to infuse active learning and inquiry into large introductory geology classes. He is commonly an invited speaker to national workshops and symposia on active learning, visualization, and teaching.

Julia K. Johnson is currently a full-time faculty member in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University. Her M.S. and Ph.D. research involved structural geology and geoscience education research. The main focus of her geoscience education research is on student- and instructor-generated sketches for learning, teaching, and assessment in college geology classes. Prior to coming to ASU, she did groundwater studies of copper deposits and then taught full time in the Maricopa County Community College District, teaching Physical Geology, Environmental Geology, and their labs. At ASU, she teaches Introduction to Geology to nearly 1,000 students per year and supervises the associated introductory geology labs. Cool Textbook

I borrowed this from amazon for school this semester, and although I picked the slower shipping, it came the day after I ordered it. It certainly looks new, and I'm almost considering buying it. So far in class this book has been very useful. It's nothing like a regular textbook either! There are TONS of pictures, which you need for geology, and they set up the information very nicely.

-The chapters are divided into sections, and each section is a 2 page spread, which is titled by either a header or a question, such as, "How Do Plates Move And Interact?", making it much easier to scroll through and find the information you're looking for.

-Also, the text isn't in invisible size-it's pretty easy to read.

-There are no long boring paragraphs that go on for miles. Instead there's smaller, 5 sentence paragraphs. The pictures and diagrams are well and concisely explained in this small paragraph form, so your specific homework question can not only be easily found, but also easily answered. They also took out a lot of unnecessary text. So if you're not going over it in class, it's not in the book. That helps when you have to reference the chapter.

-My friend has an older edition, which has no glossary, so I assume that the glossary in this book is new.

-There are also pictures and diagrams that you can observe before you read the lesson. Keep in mind, the pictures aren't on a different page, so you don't have to flip pages, find it, flip back, read, rinse and repeat. You can observe the picture, and as you read the small paragraphs, you can see what the text means. It's easy to find your place again too-just find the paragraph. In the introduction, they say that this "textbook contains more than 2,400 illustrations, which is 2 to 3 times the number in most intro to GEL textbooks".

-There are also little blurbs about what's going on in real world geology, such as how the Mediterranean sea was once a dessert. Those are again concise, interesting, and go right into the lesson.

-At the bottom right-hand corner of every 2 page-spread, there's a highlighted box containing questions, activities, and concepts you'll need to answer/ know before you leave the page. Those have been useful study guides for me.

Also know that the authors researched a lot into how students today learn, and based the book off of that research. As a student, I actually enjoy this book, and reading the chapter is SO much easier than with any other textbook I've ever had. If you borrow or buy this textbook, or are thinking of getting an older edition, just know that this edition is a lot easier to use than others, and it's worth the extra money to have a less stressed semester.

Avoid Kindle Version.

The book itself has been a great read so far. While I've only had the book for an hour, I can tell you this is quite an impressive textbook. This book is meant to be viewed with dual page layouts. (2 pages viewed at once.)

Unfortunately, "Kindle for PC" has no options to view this book as it was meant to be viewed, nor is it convenient to read this on an actual Kindle device. I suggest buying the hard copy, or renting, rather than the frustration of trying to use Kindle(anything) to read this book. I'll be returning this as soon as it's up for returning, and ordering a physical copy in it's place.

Good Book

A good book actually. Might be able to go without it though if you copy/print the tables in the back and take them to class. I honestly did not even read much of the book itself, maybe a little for reference. Pretty easy class IMO. Rent this book, don't buy it. You will not need it or even want to look at it after the class is over.

Not for serious classes

If you are an economics student who already has a few classes under your belt, then you'll probably be fine with this book. As someone who has not, and was required to take this class, it was a HORRIBLE book to learn from. There is no step by step to this book, it just writes out question and then has the answer. Does not give you the details at all. Similarly, it will have a page or so for each section within the chapter and then 12 practice questions that are completely different.

Bottom line is if your professor requires this book, consider a different professor. If your school uses this book, they aren't serious about engineering economy.

Good theory book

Used in for a mechanical engineering course elective. This was the required text and there are a couple newer versions of this text that I saw but there isn't much change other than page numbering. For the most part the book is good at presenting a method or theory and then having clear examples that follow and give a good explanation. For the most part this is a good book but other than being a required text or just wanting it for a general interest a newer version of the book would probably be what you'll be picking up.
