About the Author

Jim Cymbala has served as pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle for more than forty years. He is the author of many bestselling books, including Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire, The Church God Blesses, When God’s People Pray, Fresh Faith, and Spirit Rising. He lives in New York City with his wife, Carol, who directs the Grammy Award–winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. The Cymbalas have three children and eight grandchildren.

Dean Merrill, former publishing executive with Focus on the Family and International Bible Society, is author or coauthor of 31 books, including The God Who Won't Let Go and Sinners in the Hands of an Angry Church. He and his wife live in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

When God's Spirit Moves dvd & study guide

Excellent video series that can be used for an individual or group. I did it on my own and loved having the study guide to go with it to really grasp the concept in the video. The videos are short and the study guide is not laborous, yet really helps the reader/viewer to understand and apply what is being taught.
The series is not "fanatical" but practical and reminds us that the Holy Spirit is part of our everyday lives.

Excellent, but not as good as "When God's People Pray"

My Bible study did Cymbala's first series "When God's People Pray" and it blew us away. People's lives were changing, people around us were changing, and our community had meat and potatoes ("solid food") to chew on.

We picked this up because it seemed like a natural next step. We did not regret it for an instant, but it didn't have the power of the other one.

Cymbala himself seemed less energized. The layout of the sessions was different: 45 minutes of uninterrupted viewing, as opposed to the video being broken up by discussion. It seemed slightly lower budget - the video transitions weren't as smooth, there wasn't as much multimedia integration. It was also slightly more disjunct. It wasn't as clear how the stories fit into the study themes, and the questions themselves didn't always seem to connect to the study.

Overall though, it deserves nothing less than 4/5 stars. It was an incredibly encouraging study and God definitely used it to impact the people in our study. No doubt, he's using this to change people across the world. I probably would give it 5/5 if we hadn't done "When God's People Pray". It's impossible not to compare the two.

Great Job

This is a GREAT value for the money. Some other series are over $40. Jim Cymbala comes across as an average guy and no one feels threatened by him. He communicates to the average person so everyone can walk away with something from this series.

I also bought When God's People Pray. I am glad I did. These two seem to go together. Start with this one and then go to When God's People Pray. Each of them are only 6 weeks, so they fill a "semester" type format.

A solid title in the AFMBE line

The book lays out a lot of good info, and ideas for survival horror campaigns that extend beyond the basic 1 or 2 night game. As with other books for this game it presents a good number of interesting settings. A must have for gms planning longer running campaigns, or those wanting to play a game set after the fall of civilization. Where other books focus on the zombies this one focuses on the human. Where do they go, what do they need, and how do they respond.

Note this is NOT a player's hand book. It doesn't contain lots player trait, edges... It's mainly geared towards the GM, but there are some handy sections on survival.

About the Author
Joan Saslow is the author of a number of textbook series for adults and young adults, including "Ready to Go," "Workplace Plus," and "Literacy Plus," She was also the Series Director of "True Colors: An EFL Course for Real Communication," and of "True Voices," an EFL video course. Ms. Saslow's special interest is in distinguishing the needs of the EFL and ESL learner and creating materials appropriate for each. Ms. Saslow has taught in Chile and the United States in a variety of programs, including binational centers, academic programs, intensive language programs, and workplace programs. Ms. Saslow has been an editor, a teacher-trainer, a language learner, and a frequent speaker at gatherings of English teachers throughout the world. Allen Ascher, formerly Director of the International English Language Institute at Hunter College, has been a teacher, teacher-trainer, author, and publisher. He has taught in language and teacher-training programs in both China and the United States. Mr. Ascher has an MA in Applied Linguistics from Ohio University. Best American English Video Series!

Born and raised in a country where we do not interact with native English speaker much, I took the Top Notch English complete course. I got the DVDs for myself and watched over and over and over! I recently moved to the US for school. My American friends jokingly and successfully pass me off for an American from California :) I give a lot credit to Top Notch for my English speaking skills. It's the best (and finely entertaining) series of learning English. I am getting this package right now for a Turkish friend who asked me to get him "the best" video series for learning English.

I think it's more than worth your investment.

Gets bogged down in the detail

The story is well known. In May 2007, Kate and Gerry McCann and their three children went on holiday to a resort in Portugal, along with several friends and their children. The first few days of the holiday passed uneventfully, with the children spending most of their days in the kids club while the parents had tennis lessons and relaxed. In the evenings, the parents all got in the habit of leaving their children sleeping in their bedrooms while they dined in a nearby tapas restaurant, taking turns to go back and check on the children at regular intervals. Until one fateful evening when three year old Madeleine disappeared shortly after the 9pm check. The police were called, the media descended and the story became worldwide news.

This is Kate McCann's account of that holiday and the investigation that followed, based on the detailed diaries that she kept. The book captures the way she endlessly revisits the days before Madeleine's disappearance, looking for clues, wondering what errors of judgement she might have made. Madeleine had been very tired that night - could she have been drugged? Or just a worn out little girl on holiday? She had cried out the night before - was someone trying to get into the room? Or did one of the children simply have a bad dream? Was it a mistake to let the restaurant staff know that children were being left unattended in their bedrooms?

I can understand the way that you get lulled into the security of a holiday resort and forget that you are actually in a foreign country. Once Madeleine disappeared, this reality came home to the McCanns in a big way. Much as the French medical system was criticized after the death of Princess Diana, the Portuguese police procedures are criticized not just by the McCanns and their family, but by the British policeforce and media. Kate was frustrated by the absence of communication, by translation issues, the failure to interrogate more potential witnesses, the failure to follow up on promising leads.

I felt that the book could have done with a stronger editorial hand. There's a lot of detail, to the point that it gets overwhelming in parts, and it's not always coherently presented. For example she tells us that on the night in question their friend Matt did the 9.30pm check, but reported back that all was quiet. We don't find out until almost 100 pages later whether that meant that he went into the apartment at all, let along whether he visually checked the children. Witness sightings of men watching the apartment are also not mentioned until very late in the book.

However two things do emerge clearly: Kate's enormous guilt about what happened and her highly defensive personality. Every decision that she or Gerry made, whether it's about their parenting decisions or their quest to find their daughter, is justified. Looking around the internet and the way that every statement they make is endlessly scrutinized and judged partially explains that attitude. I suppose too, you would need to feel you'd made the best decisions that you could, or you'd go mad.

In the final chapters, Kate talks freely about how this entire experience has changed her and Gerry. The hate mail that she receives (letters that say "your daughter will be getting tortured and it's all because of you"). The dilemma she faces when her children misbehave in public and she feels she is being judged on how she interacts with them. Her guilt if she found herself enjoying anything.

In summary: an interesting read, but not as well written as I would have liked. Too long and it gets bogged down in irrelevant details. However it does give an insight into everything that the McCanns have gone through. If you dislike the McCanns, I'd advise giving it a miss: you are unlikely to feel differently about them from reading this book.

Repellent--takes no blame and too much information

As ever, she takes no blame for her child's disappearance, though she and her husband left three children--a three year old and two year old twins--alone in an unlocked holiday apartment every night of their vacation so they could go out to eat and drink with friends. You couldn't see the doors where they sat, and you couldn't hear the sounds of a child being abducted (or a child crying for her parents, which had happened previous nights of the holiday). It was much farther away than the back yard (the McCann's claim) and if you're in the back yard and the kids are asleep, do you leave the front door unlocked? They left the apartment unlocked "in case of fire". Right. Madeleine was going to usher her brother and sister to safety?

These are two doctors. They know that if they learned a patient or a patient's parent had done that, they'd have to report the parents to the police. And still Kate claims they did "responsible parenting."

Despite that, the disappearance isn't the parents' fault at all. And despite the fact that the British and Portuguese police found absolutely no evidence of an abduction but think Madeleine died accidentally in the apartment, the McCanns insist that she must have been abducted--even waking and going outside to look for her parents isn't a possibility. No, it's got to be some mean man there's no trace of--not a fingerprint, not a hair, not a fiber.

Perhaps a spot of knock-out meds so the kids wouldn't cry? Once the McCanns were back in the apartment, Kate kept sticking a finger under the twins' noses, according to her best friend, who was with them. "Still breathing? Or are you going to die too??"

Kate McCann claims that she wrote this to aid in the search and for her children to read. How reporting on her sex life and describing the parents' violent, horrific idea of what might have happened to Madeleine in the hands of a child molester are going to help the search is unclear. And the thought that Kate wrote the book for her children, as she claims? So they get to read about Mom and Dad's sex life, and a description of what a pervert might do that is unnecessary, graphic, and so shocking that it made me nauseated? No. No. No sane parent with any sensitivity or love for her children could have written that "for her children."

Fiction is what this is. I didn't pay for this rubbish. I downloaded a free copy.This book reconfirmed the parents guilt. If the dogs are so unreliable why are they being used again in Portugal to find Madeleines body? The Mcscams must carry on claiming Maddie is alive that way fools can keep donating to the fraudulent fund created minutes after the bogus abduction. These two so called parents are utterly transparent.

Oscar Wegner is an internationally known professional tennis coach, ESPN commentator, and former tour player. A Good Summary Start

I've played tennis for years and now play at a fairly high level. Always looking for the silver bullet to help my game I'm a sucker for any new books with a different angle. I would rate this book close to the tops of those but it still suffers from a significant issue: how to write a book for all levels of tennis.

The basic premise of this book is do what your body tells you and don't overanalyze or over-instruct. In this respect the book is very good and gives numerous examples including pros on why this works better. Also, it approaches the basic learning from this thought process. I would recommend this book highly for beginners as it has very simplistic initial tasks to help the beginner and they sound quite helpful.

Therefore I recommend this book but don't believe it to be the silver bullet that will make you a star.

Great pointers to improve your game immediately. My son ( HS tennis team) debates some of the pointers as being short term gimmicks but as long as I can 'still' beat him I'm okay with that!
