About the Author
Walter Alerich, BVE, MA, has an extensive background in electrical installation and education. As a journeyman wireman, he has had many years of experience in the practical applications of electrical work. Mr. Alerich has also served as an instructor, supervisor and adminstrator of training programs, and is well-aware of the need for effective instruction in this field. A former department head of the Electrical-Mechanical Department of Los Angeles Trade and Technical College, Mr. Alerich has written extensively on the subject of electricity and motor controls. He presently serves as an international specialist/consultant in the field of electrical trades, developing curricula and designing training facilities.

Jeff Keljik is a graduate of Dunwoody College of Technology and holds a Bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State University. He previously served as head of the electrical department at Dunwoody College of Technology and played an integral part in developing their Electrical Design and Management program. The recipient of both the 1993 Kraemer Fellowship Award for new technology education and an award for International Technical Teacher Education, Mr. Keljik also holds a Master Class A license and a Journeyman's Class A license, both from the State of Minnesota. He is an Executive Board Member for the North Central Electrical League and serves on the Education Committee for the Minnesota Electrical Association.

A complete book

For students who are planning to get a magister on power systems analisys ,is very important to get a complete knowledgment about every equipment that is part of the power system. Now i'm finishing my career and i'm looking for a complete book to get more information about power generation, and power quality,and i'm sure it is what im looking for .

About the Author
CHRISTOPHER P. JARGODZKI, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Physics at Central Missouri State University and the author of two previous books of science braintwisters. He was born in Warsaw, Poland, and received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in theoretical physics from the University of California. FRANKLIN POTTER, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Physics at the University of California at Irvine and conducts research in elementary particle physics and cosmology. He received his B.S. degree from Cal Tech and Ph.D. in physics from Texas Tech University.

Good material, not formatted well for Kindle.

Although the material in the book is good, it is very difficult to read on the Kindle. The questions and answers are in different sections of the book, and there are no links between them. It would be much better if each question had a link to its answer.

The best I've been able to do is keep a bookmark at the current question and answer I'm reading and go back and forth, but it's painful.

Fun Approach to Occasionally Dry Topics

Mad About Physics has problems covering a wide range of topics arranged by chapter. The problems are presented clearly and the solutions are fairly thoroughly explained if you take the time to read through them. This book is a fun and great way to review and apply your scientific knowledge or learn new things! There are entertaining quotations in the columns as fun distractions. Interspersed among the short problems/scenarios are diagrams if the situation needs to be described graphically.

Irene Flores: superb artist, superb art teacher

Irene Flores is an outstanding artist, and she's also a fine teacher. Whereas 99.9% of male cartoonists have no more understanding of clothing than I do--and that's likely because most of us don't care about the fashion industry or may actively despise it for a range of reasons, including its harmful labour practices and promotion of eating disorders--there's no question that drawing clothing as if it were an afterthought makes for boring and repetitive imagery. Film makers employ entire costume departments; since cartoonists are like indie filmmakers taken to the tiniest possible budget, we need to understand how clothing (not superhero outfits) affect characterization and mood of our stories. I've bought all three of Flores's books and will buy any other art instruction book she puts out. ministerfaust.com

Great for Learning to Draw Clothes

This book is really helpful because it talks about much more than bodies and poses. It includes all different styles of clothing for all ages, and even talks about the dynamic of wrinkles. I am also very glad that this book shys away from that awful Christopher Hart art style.

What I like about this book is that it give a great variety of clothing styles to use as examples. Even better than that, is that unlike many books that only depict one younger good looking body type , this has many ages from children to very old. it also has a variety of poses throughout the book. we have already used this book many times in our short ownership.

Based on many years' teaching in a variety of creative writing programs, Gornick's book discusses ways of making nonfiction writing highly personal without being pathetically self-absorbed. In admirably plain and direct style, she discusses writers as diverse as Oscar Wilde, Joan Didion and a man she calls the "Jewish Joan Didion," Seymour Krim. Part of the virtue of this book is Gornick's wide-ranging reading, which comprises less-than-household names like Jean Amery, a Belgium-based Holocaust survivor, and the noted Italian author Natalia Ginzburg. By excerpting and condensing freely, she presents chosen texts in speedily absorbed format, which is useful for the primer-style approach here, even if some of the original authors might object to being Readers Digested in this manner. All the texts do nevertheless support her statement that essays can "be read the way poems and novels are read, inside the same kind of context, the one that enlarges the relationship between life and literature." Noted critic/essayist Gornick (Fierce Attachments) has taught creative writing for decades, and this is the repository of her experience. She divides her subject into two parts: the essay and the memoir. While the latter essentially reflects personal experience, Gornick reminds us that an essayist is also writing personally. Drawing on classic essayists from George Orwell to Oscar Wilde, Gornick analyzes the writers' lives and sees their essays as much as possible through their eyes. She is careful to distinguish the teaching of the writing process from teaching writing, which she dismisses as impossible. Using lengthy excerpts from her favorites, Gornick presents a psychology of writing. Teaching thus by example, she creates a spare but elegant tool. Recommended for academic and public collections.

A book that deserves the stature of its author

Vivian Gornick writes beautifully, whether she's writing about love, politics, or the craft of writing. The Situation and the Story is based on her many years of teaching creative writing and focuses on ways of making nonfiction personal without wallowing in self-absorption. In other words, it helps writers discover where the 'universal truth,' the essence of Story, is in the millions of anecdotes in our lives.
As an author and writing teacher, I've found this book invaluable and have read it several times. My copy is well thumbed and appropriately coffee-stained.

Voice rings clear

If you are interested in the process of writing this is a good book. I am not sure I always agree with her assessments of various writers--Oscar Wilde for example--but Gornick is thoughtful and probing. She speaks with knowledge and experience on one of the most slippery facets of writing: the narrator's voice. This may be one of the very best books on the subject.

This book is for EVERYONE!

Once you start reading this book, you won't want to put it down! From the beginning, Roxanne draws you in by giving you a window into her tormented soul with journal entries from that dark period in her life. After reading those painful accounts, you can't help but to keep reading to find out how she climbed out of the abyss and what she's done since then to stay in the light. This book is written for all audiences, not just those dealing with depression. Some will immediately identify with Roxanne's story and other's will get a glimpse as to what a loved one or friend may be going through during their struggle. All of us will benefit from this book. Roxanne's 7 R's are practical, easy things we all can do to ensure we maintain a healthy mind. "Laughing Again" is one of those books that you'll be passing around and sharing with your friends! A great supplement to Roxanne's book is "The Depression Cure: The 6-Step Program to Beat Depression without Drugs by Stephen S. Ilardi PhD.

A must read

You do not have to be diagnosed with depressing to get anything out of this book. Roxanne shares her feelings through some dark days, but they are feelings that most people have felt at one time or another. This is a book with so much hope and love in it. The guide she gives us will help everyone. I would also recommend Stephen S. Llardi's book "The Depression Cure" if you want doctors view.

Most helpful and insightful

The book is fairly comprehensive in terms of its scope. We are currently using the book at our Organizational Behavior class, and it's proved to be an excellent reference. The way it is structured (for the reader) makes in-depth reading or skimming through it (let's face it: this is the reality for most working MBA students!) equally effective. It has clearly distinguishable definitions on the margins, which can serve as a cue for the topic, along with the summaries at the end of every chapter. The intro and closing "cases" provided around the topic of the chapter are VERY insightful and on every other page or so, there are examples about the matter being discussed, which help with the understanding (I know that I, as an Engineer, appreciate examples to illustrate a point). Finally, the illustrations (graphs and charts) are one of the best things the book has! Remember that phrase that used to say "a picture is worth a thousand words"? Well, the authors epithomize it. The charts in the book do a great job at conveying entire pages of information at a time in a very efficient way. All in all, I like the book a lot, and it's been very helpful in complementing our in-class discussions about cases and topics of Organizational Behavior.

Good for its scope of coverage in organizational behavior. I used the book on a course for Organizatinoal Psychology. It can be used for a business course or psychology. While there is so much theory, that perhaps the average manager might not use, there is a lot of food for thought here in helping any leader of a major organization, or mid-size organization, in being competitive in this competitive society, and managing effectively his or her department or company, as a strong individual leader, or wherever you might fit into the big wheel.

I was somewhat inspired by the information and examples in this book. I sold some of my college textbooks, but kept this one along with some others. Well-written and through.

A bit older than I was hoping.

This play would be hysterically funny and cynical when performed by a community theatre. I, however, was searching for something for my middle school students to perform. Sadly, this was not the play for us. Though I am glad that I read it and have it in my script library, it was not the play I was expecting.

I'm officially obsessed with this play. Brilliant, biting humor and insightful satire. The characters are deftly drawn and the plot full of fun twists and turns, all while maintaining a clear, precise style. Loads of fun.
